Monday Prayer Closet- Blessings

After almost losing her husband to a brain tumor in 2006, Laura Story’s song “Blessings” was written as a reminder that God remains faithful even when things don’t turn out the way we expect them to. “Life is filled with things you don’t expect, but the Bible tells us to respond by trusting God and continuing to worship Him,” she says.

 We have a decision to make in our trials and circumstances. 1)  We can judge God based on events we see and experience not understanding the reason or the whys. We look at the outward appearance of the situation, or 2) we base on circumstances on what we know and accept and hold to be true of God's nature, with us choosing to trust God.

Isaiah 55:8, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”

 The Lord’s thoughts and ways do not make sense to man, but mankind can rest in the knowledge that He is good because everything He does is good 

 Psalms 56:3When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. 4In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust. I will not be afraid

"Blessings"

We pray for blessings, we pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
And all the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear. 

We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not
This is not our home

What if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
And what if trials of this life-
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise
