Monday Prayer Closet- Take Me to the King (unrepentant forgiveness)
Greeting sisters, this is the last week where focus is on prayers of forgiveness. This is the second part from last week where we looked at the prodigal and forgiving one that asks for forgiveness and restoration. How we pray to forgive and move on. This week is the hard one for me and one I really was not wanting to do in my humanness because it is the hardest to express is a short time. And that is forgiving those that have hurt, persecuted, tried to destroy you and they never asked for forgiveness and there is no reconciliation in site. And sometime for safety, reconciliation is not going to happen on this side of heaven.
But as a child of God and a follower of Christ, we are commanded to forgive our enemies, those that have done wrong and wounded us.
Luke 6:27 But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Matthew 18:21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
We know these wounds can leave lasting feelings of resentment, bitterness, anger and even hatred. But God knows that if we harbor these feelings of unforgiveness in our heart, that it will lead us to a path of despair and even separation from Him.
Matthew 5:14-15 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
You cant have your cake and eat it too. We have all fallen short of the glory of God. We are all sinners that need His saving grace to redeem us. We are called to lay down the old man and pick up his cross. Our Savior asked forgiveness for those that were killing him!!!!!!
But if you embrace forgiveness, you also can embrace peace and hope that comes with it through the Holy Spirit. In forgiveness you are intentionally deciding to let go of resentment and anger to stop the hurt. You are taking it from your hands and placing it into the Father's hands. He promises to take care of it for us.
Romans 12:19-21 19Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” 20On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.
Our Father is a just and there were always come a time of reckoning whether here on earth or in heaven during judgement before his throne.
Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting or excusing the harm done to you. It also doesn't necessarily mean reconciliation with the person who caused the harm. Forgiveness brings a kind of peace that allows you to take the focus off the pain and hurt and instead put the focus on your healing and relationship with God.
We just touch the tip of the iceberg of this, but this is a prayer that you may be repeating years down the road but each and every time, we have a loving Father that is always there with us, giving us the strength and peace, we need to persevere.
Take Me To The King
My heart is torn in pieces
It's my offering
Take Me To The King
Options are few
I'm trying to pray
But where are you?
I'm all churched out
I can't fake
What's left to do?
Truth is I'm weak
No tears to cry
Even if I tried
But still my soul
One touch will change my life
Take Me To The King
I don't have much to bring
It's my offering
Lay me at the throne
To gaze upon Your glory
And sing to You this song
Please Take Me To The King
We need a word
For the people's pain
So Lord speak right now
Let it fall like rain
We're desperate
We're chasing after you
No rules, no religion
I've made my decision
The healer that I need
Take Me To The King
I don't have much to bring
My heart's torn to pieces
It's my offering
We keep making mistakes
Glory is not for us
Its all for You
Take Me To The King
