the Journey- Belt of Truth

Hello Sisters, Sandy here with part 2 of our Dressing for Battle devotional series. I hope this series encourages you to stand boldly against the enemy as you defend yourself from his attacks on you and your family.

Last week we talked about how we are in a battle and some of the things that you need to get ready with one of them being your “armor”. For the next 6 weeks, we will be talking about that armor. Now this is not an in-depth Bible study, but a quick devotional to steer us in the right direction.
Ephesians 6:14 starts with… “stand therefore, having your waist girded with truth…” First, we need to understand what we are putting around our waists. Truth in the dictionary is the body of real things, events, facts, actuality, the actual state of matter. The real question is whose truth do we follow? Ours is fickle with our moods and circumstances. The world’s truth is constantly changing to meet agendas. But God’s truth is the only truth that never changes and that we can stand on in our life.
The Bible has many many scriptures on truth. We are going to focus on 3. First, God is Truth. John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Second, God’s Word is the revelation of truth. John 17:17, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth”. And third, the truth will set you free,”...you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.
Now if we can get these 3 truths in hearts aka around our waist, then the enemy and namely fear that we fight against daily cannot get a foothold in our life. We need to embrace that God is truth period, and everyone else’s truth including what we believe to be is not real and is faulty. We need to embrace that God’s Word is the only word that is true and through His scriptures, we can declare the real truth to the enemy. (Be subject to God, resist the devil and he will flee. James 4:7). And finally, we need to embrace that God’s truth will set us free from sin, free from Satan’s power and destruction and free from fear.
For the Roman soldier, their belt was a symbol of status, even if they were not in uniform, they still wore their belts. In fact, if a commanding officer told them to take it off in public, it was a sign of embarrassment and humiliation, a punishment. So, we can see that the Belt of Truth must be our symbol of status as a believer of Christ. We wear our belt daily to show that we embrace our freedom in God, and His word during our fight.
