Hi, my fabulous Diva Sisters, Sandy here with week 4 of our Dressed for Battle Devotional series. Week 1, we talked about going on the offense and why we are dressing for battle. Week 2, we talked about the belt of truth: God is truth, the Word is revelation of truth, and the truth sets us free. Week 3, we talked about the breastplate of righteousness: Jesus took our place through His death on the cross bringing us in the right relationship with God.
“...Having your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6:15
Now as most women, I love a good pair of shoes. When I was younger, I went for style and now that I am older, I go for comfort, lol. Ever heard the saying, “shoes can make the outfit?” Well, for our battlefield amour, the shoes we are putting on is a one size fits all occasions, perfectly made for us, and the perfect accessory for our outfit. They never go out of style, never get worn out and provide the protection that we need on the spiritual battlefield.
A Roman soldier’s shoes were comfortable so he could walk miles and miles. They also have spikes on the bottom to help him keep his grip over rough ground and use it as a weapon against his enemy. So, we also can do some damage on the battlefield. Ever get stepped on with a heel? It hurts!!!
What are these shoes made of? The Gospel of Peace. The word Gospel means Good News, referring to the sacrifice Jesus made for us so we can be saved which brings us peace. By believing and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus, we can overcome the enemy. Luke 10:17” ...Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.” Believe me, the enemy knows who He is, and we are told to be fitted with the “readiness”. We need to know who Jesus is, not just His name but who He truly is. Mark 3:11, “and whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the son of God”.
So, we are to go onto the battlefield unafraid because we have the Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection. No matter what the enemy throws at us, He can never take away the peace we have in Jesus Christ. John 16:33, “In Him and only through Him we have peace.” and John 14:27, “Peace allows us to not be afraid.”
