the Journey- Sword of the Spirit

Good evening Sisters, I am so excited to share some news! Starting next week, I will be continuing with devotionals and prayer on Thursday however they will be a little shorter (ha, yeah right, lol!) and then on the weekend, I will be sharing a Bible Study video going more in depth from our Thursday Devotional! Yeah!!!! This Sat. I will post an intro video going more in depth so I hope you decide to let me be one of your Bible Study partners for this new year.

Ok, so for tonight, we are finishing up the Armor of God with Ephesians 6:17b… the sword of the spirit with the word of God. There is so much to say that this could be a yearlong Bible study in itself.
The Roman sword is the finishing touch to our armor. The sword was so sharp that it would pierce almost anything, even some metals. The soldiers spent all day, even free time sharpening their swords. It was not a long weapon but a short blade that was easy to draw and quick to swing. They could hold it close to their body.
How do we wield the sword?
1) we must sharpen it everyday by reading and memorizing the Word of God (not a million self help, commentary books written by man, but the actual Word of God).
2) We must control the sword. It is our weapon against Satan not each other. We can change and twist the Word to the context that we want it to be but what God has it written to be. We must not abandon the attitude that Jesus had towards the Words of God. We must control it in righteousness not self gain.
3) We must be confident that the weapon we wield is one of power and effectiveness. Satan will try to twist and pervert God’s Word, just like he did in the beginning with Eve. His MO has never changed. Satan will try to destroy our confidence byr getting our eyes off of the power word of God and of us in our weakness and faults.
I know this is a little longer but bear with me, I really think this is important and a great take away to remember: Jesus' example of using the sword. In Matthew 4:1-11 and again in Luke 4:1-13, we read about a battle, one of temptation, one fought against the enemy and one won by our Lord and Savior. After 40 days and nights in the wilderness, fasting, alone; Satan came to tempt Jesus. To get Him out of the perfect will of the Father, to defeat the sinless one and render Him ineffective for our redemption, salvation and justification. But here is my take away....
“It is Written”. Yes this is what Jesus said each time the enemy came at him. But here is the wow thing. In greek “it is written” is in PRESENT TENSE!!!!! What?!?!?! But Jesus was quoting it is written with scripture from Deuteronomy and 1 Chronicles. These scriptures were written hundreds of years ago in the past. This is how awesome God’s Word is… IIT IS WRITTEN (present tense) is for us now just like it was for Jesus then. God’s word is present!!!!
So remember sisters, God’s word is the final authority in all things, all teachings, all correcting, all training. We are to receive it, believe it and obey it. I pray that when you need your sword for battle, you remember IT IS WRITTEN!
