The Awe of God: week 3

 Hi ladies. I wanted to share a couple of points from our book club study, The Awe of God by John Bevere. For this post, we are focus on week three and here are a couple of points from the book and our discussion.

Irresistable Holiness:

1) The fear of man-

- can cause of to value popularity even to a point of worship

-you will serve who you fear

-desire for acceptance leads to hypocritcal behavior

2) Entitlement-

-entitled thoughts entrap us and is deceptive

-we are called to live in holiness, this is true liberty to enjoy God and this world

-avoid lawlessness (unscriptual grace to live like the world) 

-Avoid legalism (unscriptual man made rules)

-these both prevent us from the blessing, presence and power of God

3)Depart from evil-

-the fear of the Lord is a gift that protects us from departing from Jesus

-Apostasy can be loving Jesus (superfically) but not fearing God

-we need to mature in our walk with fear and trembling, not love and kindness (baby belief)

4) Longevity-

-evil will shorten our ministry

-the fear of the Lord is clean and enduring forever psalm 19:9

-manifestation of God produces cleaniness to our soul

-we have to endure: remain firm even under suffering or misfortunes in the world

5) Cleans ourselves-

-cleanliness is a fruit of holy fear, starts with justification and then to sanctification

-positional holiness is solely due to Jesus, nothing we do

-behavioral holiness starts to aline with our position in Christ

6) Our pursuit-

- intensly seeking separation unto God so we may see Him

- we chase after the behavior worthy of God

- if we lack holy fear, we lack the drive to pursue holy behavior that grants us God's presence

7) Desire and power-

-obedience id hard in our flesh but God have given us power grace

-grace frees us from the law and grants us a new nature free from sin

- grace is empowerment: what you cant do in your ability, you can do in his power 2 Cor 12:9, 2 Pet 1:2-3

-we try to please God in our own power and we fail 

-God's grace empowers us to live holy, everything we need for living a Godly life
