Monday Prayer Closet- Healing is for today. - Oh, My Soul (Casting Crowns)
Greeting sisters. Keeping with March's prayer theme, Healing is for today!
First, we talked about why Jesus Healed, it was a main aspect of Jesus ministry on Earth and how people received their healing, they came, heard, believed in faith. Faith is not the healing power, but we do see that faith is the first step toward healing. Gods power is what heals but our faith must be present. Remember faith is the reliance and complete trust in God.
Second week, we learned healing is biblical and we talked about what the Word of God tells us about healing including many scriptures of instructions and promise to build up our faith and to pray in faith. We listed both Old and New Testament scriptures.
For this week, how we are to pray for ourselves and others because healing is for today! The how is going to come straight from the Word...
James 5:14-16 (KJV) 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
1) Jesus healed all...for us Believers- romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. for unbelievers- (Jesus) went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. Acts 10:38
2) Who to go to... elder, spiritual leaders aka a believer in Christ who has faith, one who can intercede (intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others- 1John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.)
3) They are instructed to pray, we are instructed to pray for one another 1 Timothy 2:1, NLT: "I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them."
4) Anoint with oil (it can be actual oil but what does oil represent), “you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge” (1st John 2:20) and we know the Spirit of God teaches us for “the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him” (1st John 2:27).
5) In the name of the Lord- ‘I will restore your health, and I will heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord.” Jerimiah 30:17. Healing is in God authority and His Will.
6) Prayer of faith: Prayer is made in full confidence of God’s power to heal. Those who pray should be unwavering in their confidence that God will always do what is right. Having prayed the prayer of faith, we can cheerfully commit our lives into God’s hands. John 14: 13-14 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
7) If he committed sins... If the particular illness is the result of personal sin, then confession and repentance of that sin is also called for. ex you smoke cigarette, how do you expect healing of your lungs if you keep smoking? 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (See also 2 Chronicles 7:14)
8) Fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much- fervent simply means “impassioned, forceful, passionate, heartfelt, powerful, or wholehearted. The righteous person is the one who has been made right with God—the one whose sins are forgiven. The original Greek word translated as “availeth” means “is able,” “is capable,” or “has the power.” 1 Pet 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
So yes, we are called to pray for one another for healing that is in the authority and will of God.
Oh, my soul
Oh, how you worry
Oh, how you're weary, from fearing you lost control
This was the one thing, you didn't see coming
And no one would blame you, though
If you cried in private
If you tried to hide it away, so no one knows
No one will see, if you stop believing
Oh, my soul
You are not alone
There's a place where fear has to face the God you know
One more day, He will make a way
Let Him show you how, you can lay this down
'Cause you're not alone
Here and now
You can be honest
I won't try to promise that someday it all works out
'Cause this is the valley
And even now, He is breathing on your dry bones
And there will be dancing
There will be beauty where beauty was ash and stone
This much I know
Oh, my soul
You are not alone
There's a place where fear has to face the God you know
One more day, He will make a way
Let Him show you how, you can lay this down
I'm not strong enough, I can't take anymore
(You can lay it down, you can lay it down)
And my shipwrecked faith will never get me to shore
(You can lay it down, you can lay it down)
Can He find me here
Can He keep me from going under
Oh, my soul
You're not alone
There's a place where fear has to face the God you know
One more day, He will make a way
Let Him show you how, you can lay this down
'Cause you're not alone
Oh, my soul, you're not alone
and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].
