The Awe of God by John Bevere week 1
Hi ladies. I wanted to share a couple of points from our book club study, The Awe of God by John Bevere. For this post, we are focus on week one and here are a couple of points from the book and our discussion.
4 Fear Statements:
1) We are human, and we will fear
2) The awe and fear of God is way deeper, beautiful, intimate than we imagine
3) The fear of God swallows up all destructive fears
4) The fear of God is the beginning of everything good
_______________________________________________________________
- We need to see the fear of God as a virtue (virtue: a good moral quality: standard of behavior). (1Peter 1:5) ... make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue...
- Fear of God is a holy reverence, sense of awe and submission, obedience, worship, respect, honor, venerate, adore Him above anyone or anything else, to take on His heart, love what HE loves, hate what He hates... (Duet 10:12,20-21)
- Holy fear trumps all other virtues (peace, kindness, self-control, etc.) because it is Jesus' delight (Is 11:3) and God's treasure (Is 33:6)
- Someone that is scared of God has something to hide, however, the person who fears God has nothing to hide, instead they are terrified of being away from God.
- He desires for you to come close, interact with Him. (Ps 25:14)
- Godly fear aka Awe- feeling of respect, reverence mixed with dread and wonder, inspired by something majestic and powerful.
- Heb 12:28-29, I encourage you to look this up, so many promises for us, endures forever and is a treasured from God- intimate relationship, wisdom, knowledge, security, empowerment, identity, confidence, swallows fears of man, happiness, healing, longevity, etc.
- You will never find God's wonderful presence in an atmosphere where He is not revered and held in awe. (Ps 89:7)
- 2 types of God's presence:1) Omnipresence (Ps 139:7-8,12. Heb 13:5) 2) Manifest presence (Jn 14:21, Matt 18:20)
- Holy fear does not scare us aware from God but draws us in to Him. Where the Lord is reverenced, His presence manifests.
- We need to stop being preoccupied with world that we don't have the space or time to behold him. We must meditate, pray, get into the Word, worship Him.
- Lastly, the glory of God is everything that makes God. All his character, authority, power and wisdom, literally the unmeasurable weight and magnitude of God. We want to be in His glory, only there will our spirit see Him.
I hope you take a moment or two and look up these scriptures, that as we meditate on His Word and focus on being in His present with Awe, His presence will manifest in us. There is so much blessing just to be with Him.
