The Awe of God wk 5
Here is the short note version for week 5 of John Bevere's The Awe of God.
INTIMACY with GOD
1. Where Intimacy Begins
-begins with Holy Fear: increasing our comprehension of God's glory, purifies our motives, frees from fear of man, produces true holiness (we are separated unto God), this brings on true Obedience which is instant, 100% fulfillment of his instructions. This leads us to Intimacy with God.
-intimacy is knowing his innermost secrets, knowing him (more that you know a spouse)
- this is a 2way street, he is not hiding and is seeking us out so we much do the same.
-we determine the level of intimacy we have with him.
2. A Different Jesus
- we are to know him so well, that we can instantly know when a knock off Jesus is being preached to the people.
- we need to not know who he is but know him and all that he is. Many people know who Jesus man is but they don't know who Jesus God is because they don't have holy fear, don't obey and don't spend time with him. They are easily deceived.
- if we don't fear him, we can't walk in his presence
3. I Don't Know You
- relationship without obedience is a fictional Jesus
- he is warning us now because he loves and protects us but there will come the time when he has to say before the father, I don't know them.
- people will use his title Lord but not acknowledge his position, that follow the fictional Jesus not him. Why? because they did not fear him, they practice lawlessness (sin), they are not excited to be in relationship with him.
- Jesus will acknowledge those before the Father that honors his position, who show emotions/ get excited about him and the Word, who are involved in his service, who feel him deeply, who are outspoken in the belief in the gospel.
4. The Secret of the Lord:
- God shares his secrets with those that fear him
- He shares his secrets with his friends. Abraham was so close to God that he didn't know why God wanted him to sacrifice his son, but he knew who God was and what he could do. He knew the secrets of his friend and believed in him.
- He shares his secrets with those who obey immediately, who doesn't bargain, or complain.
5. The Inside Scoop:
- there is a different type of communication with a friend than just with an associate
- God listens to his friends
- when we don't fear him, we are worldly and clueless of his secrets and don't have his ear.
- the lack of Holy Fear will result in getting as close to the line without sinning, but it doesn't work because eventually sin will pull us on in away from him totally.
6. Face to Face:
-what builds God's trust so he sees us face to face? unconditional obedience, absolute integrity, unwavering priority, knowing his heart: all of these call for consistency with him.
- Moses choose God's presence over blessings, he knew God's heart and God was his priority.
-Only those that dear will know God's heart, character, secrets, and plans- will see him face to face
7. You Are My Friends:
- to be friends we need trust- to have confidence in, faith in.
- to have Jesus as our friend, he needs to have trust in us also (remember its a 2 way street)
-Jn 15:15 servant to friend, you will stay a servant until you are established (fixed firmly permantly settled) in the fear of the Lord.
- we have to follow his commands to even be considered friend Jn 15:14
